Five Lakes Golf Club - Captains Drive in and Turkey trot CAPTAIN Tony Drives in Five Lakes Golf Club welcomed their new Captain Tony Cook for the 2008/09 season. Retiring captain Chris Southgate putted out on the 18th green to be followed by Tony driving off on the 1st hole. Tony’s drive the longest in several years was 200yds.

Tony has been a member at Five Lakes since 1996, previous to this was a member at Stoke by Nayland for many years, during the years at Five Lakes he has been a regular member of the Thornton Cup, Leslie F. Wood and Curry Cup teams, having spent last year as Chris Southgate's vice captain and was previously the club treasurer.

Tony has nominated The Wooden Spoon and Cancer research as his nominated charities, Tony will look forward to working with his vice captain Clive Jenner, Lady Captain Julie Dent, Junior Captain Elias Fantousi and Vets Captain Ron Dent.

Turkey Trot BEFORE the Captains Drive in the main club held their Turkey Trot competition, all the male members attempting to win the six prizes.

Five Lakes treasurer Dave Parkins just missed out on the Turkeys, beaten on count back by Paul Bowers (8) also with 38 points, followed in fifth place by Alan Riches (11) with 37 points, the next four positions all scored 38 points and the main prizes again were settled by count back, fourth place went to Gregg Barratt (20), third place went to new Vice Captain Clive Jenner (20), second on the day went Dave Chignell (14) however this year’s winner was Russell Smith playing off 18 with the best back 9 holes, the scratch prize was won by John Lewins with the best gross score.
