On a wet and windy Sunday morning, October 28, 54 men played a Foursomes Stableford competition at Maldon Golf Club.

This was the qualifying event for the Daily Mail Foursomes in which the winners go forward to the next round of the competition.

The winners were two youngsters, namely Billy Mason and Sam Cummins with a very good 41 points.

In second were Keith Denny and Jack Rosenberg with 39 points. Gordon Harvey and Gary Rayner came third with 39 points.

Two pairs both had 35 points and had to be separated on count back into fourth and fifth place; these were Tony Adams with John Meakes and Alan Buckingham with Keith Moakes respectively.
