THE third event of the Maldon and District Cycling Club winter cyclo-cross series took place at the Battlesbridge course.

On a damp and dull day another good turnout was on display across all the category races.

Race one was the under-12s with Maldon riders taking the first three place as Matthew Dodsworth narrowly took the win ahead of his sister Erica in second spot and Caitlin Griffiths in third place.

Next up was the under-14/youth race with Oliver Partner from Colchester Rovers taking the win, followed by Thomas Knowler of Team Darenth and Daniel Hall also of Colchester Rovers taking third.

Highest Maldon rider was Harry Wood, who came home fourth.

The third and final race was the main event the Junior/Senior/Vet race with a total field of 61 starters.

Overall winner was junior Cam Hurst of VC Revolution, with Steve Coulson, a private entry, coming second overall as a vet 40+ while third place was taken by junior Jake Darragh of Hadleigh Mountain Bike Club.

The highest placed Maldon rider was Ben Locke.

Locke finished the race seventh overall but was the highest placed senior.

Kurt Minter of Maldon finished eighth overall as the first Vet 50+ home.

Meanwhile, there was a top-30 finish for Maldon and District Cycling Club’s Anthony Marsh in the Eastern Cyclo Cross League at Trinity Park in Ipswich.

Marsh finished in 28th place in the Junior/Senior race.

The Vets 40+ race saw a large field and Maldon’s James Farren finished in 16th place, with Jason Gillard in 62nd.

In the Vets 60+ race, Maldon’s Neil Bradley finished in 54th place to complete a good day.
