HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS sprung a major surprise after knocking former Football League club Dagenham and Redbridge out of the Essex Senior Cup tonight.
Jody Brown’s men made it to the final last year – beating the Daggers en route - and continued their love affair with the competition following a 3-1 victory at Victoria Road.
New signing Josh Sykes opened his account for the club by scoring the opening goal in the fourth-round contest.
Reece Grant quickly made it two and Lewis Godbold put Swifts three-up on 35 minutes.
Striker Shomari Barnwell pulled one back just before half-time but that was the end of the scoring and Swifts move into the quarter-final draw, which is taking place on Wednesday afternoon.
It was not such a good night for BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Ryman League premier division side Billericay Town.
Michael Bakare scored both goals – both in the second half.
Billericay also blazed a penalty over the bar before the break, after an alleged foul by keeper Dan Beeson.
WITHAM TOWN were in Ryman League division north action and lost 1-0 at home to Phoenix Sports.
Jack Barry scored the only goal of the game, just after half-time.
STANWAY ROVERS romped to a 6-0 victory at home to Haverhill Rovers, in the Thurlow Nunn League.
It helped them trim the gap on runaway premier division leaders Mildenhall Town – who they play on Saturday – to 10 points.
