SIX young Burnham Rugby Club players attended the first under-15s development day hosted by Old Brentwood.

They were Nathan Clark, Mitch Sims, Will Flower, Jay Murray-Thompson, Hayden Brash and Jack Hawkins.

They teamed up with seven players from Old Brentwood and played a friendly against Chelmsford B.

Parents reported that the boys were pleased to have a game, pulling together to play as a team and switching around their positions to maximise their playing abilities.

Hawkins scored some excellent tries for the team.

The day was a success, leaving the boys looking forward to the next development day.

Elsewhere, Burnham's colts had a friendly at Thurrock.

Two of their players swapped shirts and started for the hosts, to make up the numbers.

The game got off to a slow start, with the teams fairly evenly matched.

The home side scored the first try, which was unconverted.

Burnham swiftly replied with full-back Rhys Newton running the length of the pitch to score their first try, which was also unconverted.

Thurrock scored the next try before Burnham's Amiel Montealegre weaved through the home defence to bring the half-time score to 10-10.

Both teams scored another try after the break, with Burnham's coming after a swift break from Dylan Hawks.

This time Jamie Pugh converted it, bringing the full-time score to 17-15 to Burnham.

Burnham's man-of-the-match was Ewan Allen, who started the game in a Thurrock shirt.

Burnham's under-nines travelled to Maldon.

In the first game, both teams played extremely well and the defences held out.

The game was so close that the final score was Maldon 1 Burnham 0.

After the first game, the team were a little tired but ready to take on their next opponents - this time much bigger opposition.

This took its toll as the Maldon defence was almost unbreakable.

On the few occasions Burnham managed to break through, the speed of the hosts' defensive back line kept Burnham at bay.

Maldon’s offensive line was just as fast and, on the occasions they broke through, they managed to score.

The final score was Maldon 5 Burnham 1 and the visitors' try was scored by Thomas Courts.

The final game was just as good as the first two and this time Burnham won 2-1.

Their winning try was scored by Courts, with his second of the day.

Player-of-the-day went to Joe Banks.
