OUTGOING seniors captain David Barbour was crowned winner of Five Lakes Golf Club's Mulligan stableford.

A total of 32 players from the club's seniors section took part in the competition, held on the Lakes course.

It was followed by Mick Phillis's drive-in, acknowledging the start of his time as the club's seniors captain for 2017.

Barbour, playing off 16, capitalised on his season’s consistent form to return a commanding total of 45 points.

It was good enough for him to take top spot, a point ahead of runner-up Barry Painter.

In mild but damp conditions and with the greens being a little unpredictable, most players resorted to using their coveted mulligans on the putting surface, where missing the three foot dead straight uphill was fairly compensated.

Scoring was naturally good, with all but eight players returning scores of 30 points and better.

Phillis had a successful drive-in, rifling his tee shot to 179 yards before its progress was impeded by a stray bunker.

He takes over from last year’s captain, David Barbour.

Results: 1st David Barbour 45 points, 2nd Barry Painter 44 points, 3rd Peter Ivey 41 points, 4th Brian Earey 40 points on countback, 5th Jim Fern 40 points, 6th Martin Measor 39 points.
