MALDON Gig Rowing Club members competed in the first race of the Harkers Yard Gig 2016 Winter Series, which got underway at Brightlingsea.
Thirteen gigs entered across the ladies, men's and mixed teams.
After a drizzly start, the rain stopped in time for the beginning of the races and rowers just had to deal with southerly gusty winds of 19 to 21mph.
A couple of gigs had time penalties for crossing the line before the gun in the ladies' race.
The Maldon ladies in Record Reign fought back after a poor start to come second.
Maldon's men's team had a great race and came first, beating their nearest rival by half a minute.
Maldon's mixed team battled well and came fifth.
Overall, Maldon are second following the first Winter Series race.
The second race is scheduled for Sunday at Rowhedge.
