Brightlingsea Regent won a third Ryman League division north game in a row as they beat Great Wakering Rovers 2-1 at North Road.

Hosts Regent set their stall out early by taking the lead in the sixth minute with a strike by Shamido Pedulu and after it stayed that way at the break, Matt Cripps doubled the advantage in the 64th minute.

Tommy Spillane did get one back for Rovers with ten minutes remaining but it wasn’t enough to prevent Brightlingsea earning the three points.

There was also a one-goal win for Maldon and Tiptree on their division north trip to Bowers and Pitsea.

Liam Nash’s 18th minute strike gave the visitors the advantage that they didn’t relinquish for the remaining 72 minutes of the game.

The result saw Maldon leapfrog their hosts and move into the top six in the division north table.

However, there was no positive news for Witham Town as they became the first side in the division to lose to bottom side Wroxham this season.

The Norfolk side hadn’t won in any of their previous 12 games and looked to be heading to a 13th without a win after Tim Monsheju put Witham ahead in the 20th minute.

However, two bits of sloppy defending saw Wroxham score in both halves to take their debut three-point haul.

Their win came courtesy of Davillian Katabana’s 35th minute strike and an own goal in the 81st minute.
