IT was a busy weekend for Maldon and District Cycling Club, with the regular Saturday morning 10TT taking place on the E21/10 course followed by the Maldon Road Race on Sunday.

Another good turnout of riders on a fine but fresh morning for the Saturday 10TT saw Colin Lewin, of Velo Schils Interbike, finish as the fastest man on the day in a time of 22 minutes and 58 seconds.

The fastest Maldon rider was Steve Bass, in 23m 46s, while the fastest junior once again was Maldon’s Harry Wood, in 24m 38s.

In the two up category, Lea Marshall (Essex Roads) and Katie Ann Elliston (Junior, Southend Wheelers) finished in 29m 30s.

Thanks go to all the volunteers, marshals and timekeepers who allow these events to run.

Meanwhile, the club held their annual road race as part of the Eastern Road Race League.

In the National B band two race, there was a distance of 80 miles and for the Regional B race on the same course a distance of 49 miles.

A strong field of 70 riders lined up for the National B race, which eventually saw Andy Lyons, of local team Richardsons-Trek Race Team, take first place, with Joshua Lawless, of PMR@Tocahim House, second.

Lyon’s team-mate from Richardsons-Trek RT, Simon Alexander, finished in third spot.

In the Regional B race, a field of 38 riders eventually saw Alistair Gurney, of CC London, take the win, closely followed home by Fred Hamlin (no club) in second spot and Mark Harris, of Cyclism Cycling, finish in third.

Continuing his strong form this season, Maldon’s Ben Locke finished in sixth place.

The club would like to extend huge thanks to Darren Steward for organising and putting this event on, along with all the volunteers that gave up their time for marshalling and other race-related duties.
