THERE was nothing uncertain about Jim Scott and Dave Newton's performance after they won Maldon Golf Club's annual Confusion Trophy.

A record 36 pairs competed in the testing stableford-based format, where holes one to six are played as foursomes, holes seven to 12 as greensomes and holes 13 to 18 as betterball.

Add to this the customary shot-gun start and all players needed to keep their wits about them as to what format they were playing at any given time and when to change.

On a sunny autumn morning there were some excellent scores, with Scott and Newton victorious on 41 points.

Aaron Dickson and Keith Locke were runners-up on 40 points, ahead of third-placed Billy Mason and Marley Read (39 points).

There was a countback for fourth and fifth on 38 points, with Josh Cousins and Ben Griffiths just edging out Matt Pepper and Paul Shires.

The nearest the pin prizes went to Leon Griffiths on the par three fifth/14th hole and to Josh Cousins for the closest second shot to the par four sixth/15th.
