TWENTY-SIX teams contested a mixed better ball stableford competition to celebrate Five Lakes' Seniors' Guest Day.

Played on a pleasantly warm, breezy day, the dry conditions and fast true greens gave opportunities for some excellent and consistent scoring.

Although early starters, Peter Coulstock and Rob Swan, playing with captain David Barbour and his partner Ian Robinson, set a clubhouse target of 43 points.

However, it was inevitable that this was going to be bettered and so it proved with in-form Barry Turner, partnered by David Madan, returning an unbeatable 45 points.

The best individual score went to Madan with 38 points - five points clear of second-placed John Meakes.

The best Five Lakes members’ team prize was collected by president Barry Boniface and Clive Jenner, with 43 points.

Main results: 1st Barry Turner and Dave Madan 45 points, 2nd Peter Coulstock and Rob Swan 43 points on countback, 3rd Paul Raymond and lady captain Roma Raymond 43 points, 4th John Meakes and Peter Harper 41 points on countback, 5th Norman Davies and Les Daughtrey 41 points.

David Spence won the gents' nearest the pin competition on the fourth hole, while Pauline Haggerty was closest for the ladies on the eighth hole.

Mike Kettle won the gents' longest drive on the ninth hole and Sally Cade was longest for the ladies on the 18th.

In the recent seniors' stableford qualifier played on the Lakes Course, the leading positions were:
