WITHAM TOWN’S FA Cup adventure is over after losing 3-1 in their second qualifying round tie at Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Adam Flint’s side had won their first two matches in the competition, eliminating Eton Manor – conquerors of FC Clacton – and Haringey Borough.

However, sadly there was no repeat against their Evo-Stik Southern League division one central hosts, who took control thanks to first-half goals from Nathan Minas and Oliver McCoy.

Lewis Payne gave Witham hope with a goal just before the break, but there was no way back for the Village Glass Stadium side and Ollie Jones made it 3-1 on 75 minutes.

Elsewhere, Adam Mills played the starring role as MALDON AND TIPTREE thumped Romford 5-1 in Ryman League division north at Park Drive.

Kevin Horlock’s side got off to a bad start when a mistake at the back allowed Ryan Boswell to put the visitors ahead, after 15 minutes.

However, Sam Newson levelled soon after and Mills put the Jammers ahead.

Mills then netted again just after the hour-mark and completed his treble seconds later, taking his tally for the season to nine.

Tyler Brampton added a fifth in stoppage time and, having now scored 11 goals in two games, Horlock’s men will be in confident mood for Tuesday’s Essex derby against Witham.

BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT lost 4-1 at second-placed Bury Town.

Aaron Condon gave them a dream start by scrambling home a right-wing cross midway through the first half.

However, Bury were back on level terms two minutes later through skipper Phil Weavers.

Former Regent striker Josh Mayhew put the Suffolk side ahead before further goals from Remi Garrett and Ryan Jolland.

Regent will hope to bounce back when they entertain Bowers and Pitsea on Tuesday.

HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS played the first of two matches in quick succession against Norfolk opposition when they welcomed Norwich United to Scraley Road.

They were hoping to put distance between themselves and the bottom three but ended up losing 1-0, following an 85th-minute winner by Adam Hipperson.

Jody Brown’s side make the long trip to basement boys Wroxham on Tuesday.
