CHARLIE Powell mastered the conditions to win the Roger Hyman Trophy at Five Lakes Golf Club.

Powell (ten) scored 40 points to win the gents' 18-hole stableford, on a very breezy and fiery day on the championship Lakes course.

Played from the medal white tees, very few players were able to return scores past 33 stableford points.

But Powell performed well to finish a point ahead of runner-up Steve Harris (21), who scored 39 points.

Junior Tom Vass (12) came third with 35 points, with Les Powell (23) fourth on 34 points.

Closest to the pin on the fourth was Ian Cottee and on the 11th was Neil Shinwell.

Nearest to the line on the par-five 12th was Paul Bowers.

A trio of players won birdie two balls - Tom Vass on the fourth and Stuart Sturdy and Neil Shinwell, on the 11th.
