THE annual Club Day is the highlight of the season for Maldon Croquet Club and it was Henry Hamber who won the Legerton Trophy this year.

The competition was very tight this year, with three players drawing on 32 hoops.

The first place was decided by the number of hoops against the player.

In third place was Martyn Hardy King with 20 hoops against him, then Sheila Renew with 14 against her and Hamber took the win with only ten against him.

Hamber also won the Forrester Plate with his croquet partner Jane Woodhead.

The Georgie Clarke Vase - a knockout competition played throughout the season - was won by Joan Fairclough.

The final was also played on the annual club day.

Fairclough won the final against last year's winner Jean Healey.

The game was very decisive with a 7-2 win for Fairclough.
