MALDON and District Cycling Club members enjoyed a record-breaking evening.

Lisa Hurrell and Rebecca Hammond smashed the club record for the female tandem - which has not been broken since 1991 - when competing in the latest Evening 10-mile time trial on Tuesday evening.

They posted a time of 25 minutes and 23 seconds, with the previous record standing at 27m 44s.

The achievement was all the more memorable as the pair had only ridden seven miles on the tandem together the week before.

The fastest riders on the night both came from Velo Schils Interbike, as Colin Lewin and Neil Hughes recorded times of 23m 4s and 23m 7s respectively.

The fastest Maldon rider was Tim Savage, with a time of 23m 16s, while the fastest junior was again Harry Wood, who seems unstoppable this season in a time of 24m 19s.

As always, thanks went to the volunteers, marshals and timekeepers for allowing the evening event to run.
