THIRTY-NINE Five Lakes seniors contested the Clem Gottelier Cup - a stableford qualifying competition played on the Links course.

After a long period of dry weather, and with very tight fairways, the course, in a brisk north-westerly wind, presented a real challenge to all golfers.

With lightning-fast greens, pitching the ball to pin high was a precise art mastered by only a handful of players who managed to return 30 points and better.

Under these testing conditions, 22-handicapper Alan Blois’s return of 32 points with a superior back nine was sufficient to secure the honours from Barry Pearson, also on 32 points.

Pearson just held on to second place, with Tony Horne a point further behind in third place.

Main results: 1st Alan Blois 32 points on countback, 2nd Barry Pearson 32, 3rd Tony Horne 31 on countback, 4th Tony Bermingham 31, 5th Peter Cox 30.

The nearest the pin competition was won by Richard Taylor on the 10th hole and Tony Bermingham on the 13th.
