AARON Dickson scored a narrow victory in the Jubilee Cup at Maldon Golf Club.

His success followed a two-way countback.

The former bogey competition, first contested in 1935 to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V, is now played as a stableford event.

Dickson returned a score of 39 points, just edging Andy West into second place.

Third place went to Rob Poynton, on 37 points, while Keith Hinton was fourth, on 36.

Dickson rounded off a successful day by also winning the nearest the pin prize on the par three fifth/14th hole.

The prize for the closest second shot to the par four sixth/15th hole went to Billy Mason.

Meanwhile, a team of 16 Maldon seniors travelled to Colchester Golf Club to compete in the annual Greene King competition.

This is an event contested by six local clubs and hosted on a rota basis.

Maldon's best previous result was a marvellous victory on home soil in 2014.

However, other than this, they have had a relatively disappointing away record in the event.

The teams of 16 competed as eight better ball stableford pairs, with all eight scores being aggregated to establish the teams' total for the day.

Maldon's team performed superbly to claim second place - their best-ever away performance - only losing out to the hosts, for whom home advantage no doubt played a significant role.

Third place on the day went to the team from Frinton.

Maldon's seniors continued their good form with a fine 6-2 win in their friendly match at home to Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club.
