ALL sections of Five Lakes Golf Club celebrated Nigel Potter’s Captain’s Day in fine style.

With food and drink strategically placed around the Lakes course there was no excuse for poor play and the scores certainly reflected this.

Susan Butterworth claimed the ladies' prize with 31 points, with Nancy Bradshaw in second place with 30.

The Juniors had to resort to countback, with Tom Vass and Lewis Cookson both on 40 points, but Vass took first place with a better back-nine score.

The men’s main event was hard-fought, with several players on 43 points but the supreme champion was Charlie Powell with a magnificent 46 points off his ten handicap.

Runner-up was Bernie Sheldrick on countback from Danny Murtagh.

President Barry Boniface created a very challenging putting competition with out-of-bounds on each of the nine-hole putting course resulting in single-figure handicapper Malcolm Pook taking 12 shots on the three-yard fourth.

Steve Ward won the nearest-the-line event with his ball landing smack on the line after a 220 yard drive.

The day ended with a barbecue and a full house for the captain’s presentations.
