ON the club's home lawns at Forrester Park, Maldon Lakeside Croquet Club took on high-flying Chelmsford in the East Anglian Golf Croquet League.
The two teams battled over each of the 18 games in a match that lasted a total of six hours.
At the end of a rewarding and competitive day, Chelmsford took the honours by ten games to eight but Maldon Lakeside's team of Jill Joslin, Pete Howe, Neil Grandy and Chris Joslin satisfied themselves by having scored 106 hoops to Chelmsford's 105.
Many games went to 7-6 and close to the hour time limit in what was a mammoth match.
The scorers on the day were Vaun and Eunice Legerton.
Next up is Maldon's Pavilion team at home to league leaders Southchurch.
Meanwhile, Maldon Croquet Club is taking part in the 'I am Team GB' event on Saturday, August 27.
Thousands of people will be taking part in free sports events across the country and it is being held in partnership with the British Olympic Association and UK Sport and is supported by Join In.
The event at Forrester Park Golf Club in Great Totham will be between 10am and noon on August 27.
