FINALS Day for the Forrester Park Tennis Club Championship was played in very humid, and hot conditions, but that didn't prevent some fantastically close and hard-fought matches being played on their courts in Great Totham.

New member Matt Birch was playing in the Club Championship for the first time and his speed around court helped him reach the men's singles final.

However, this was not enough to take the title against long-time member and previous champion Graham Duke.

Other feature matches saw Tim Eacott and Fiona Price defend their mixed doubles title against Martin Duke and Anne Cooper, before father and son, Martin and Graham Duke, came back from losing the first set 3-6, to win the third set 7-5 and take the men's doubles title against Tim Eacott and Lee Woodward.

Meanwhile, two of the best matches of the day for the spectators, were in the second-stream Plate competitions, in which the men's doubles category produced a fascinating three-set match, battled out over two-and-a half hours.

In the end, Phil Taylor and Chris Green came out on top over father and son team, Kevin and Tom Eden.

On an adjacent court, the mixed doubles was of similar length and quality, with husband and wife team Jeff and Penny Griffey finally taking the win against Sean Emmett and Caroline Elder, two sets to one.

Other winners on the day were Keith Hollingsworth in the men's over-60s singles, Anne Cooper and Debbie Ginn in the ladies doubles and ladies' captain, Fiona Price, who was too strong in the ladies' singles for first-time finalist Lisa Wu.
