BRIAN Roche was able to convert a halfway lead into overall victory in the 36 hole Handicap competition at Burnham on Crouch Golf Club.

After 18 holes, Roche and Dean Bewers were leaders in the clubhouse on 68, with three players - Mel Aggus, Dave Hallett and Tom Tothill - on 69.

The afternoon was about consistent play in the increasing wind but Roche held on to his lead to wrap up victory.

RESULTS: 1st Brian Roche with 68 & 69 =137, 2nd Tom Tothill 69 & 71 = 140 (ocb), 3rd Dean Bewers 68 & 72 = 140, 4th Stuart Steele 76 & 65 = 141 (ocb), 5th Andy Rapley 70 & 71=141.

Others with one good score over the two rounds were Micky Leonard and Tim Hull.

The ladies played the difficult Bogey competition for the Dora Peaty Rose Bowl.

For the weekend ladies it was strong winds but on Thursday it was a lovely day with a light breeze.

RESULTS: 1st Claire Brown +2 (ocb), 2nd Heather Sullivan +2, 3rd Mel Lewis +1 (ocb), 4th Linda Stevens +1.

In the July midweek medal, Gary Taylor won with 64 nett, while second went to Roger Miles with nett 69 and Richard Corfield was third on nett 70.

Burnham's Cadets travelled to tRayleigh in their last match in this year’s Youth Shield.

Although they lost overall, Rachel Clark had a notable victory 5&4.

The ladies' Silver team travelled to Benton Hall for their final match in the league stage.

Home advantage held sway, but there were wins for Avis Greenaway and Liz Clark in a 3-2 loss for Burnham.

In windy conditions, 34 seniors took part in this month's Stableford competition.

The winner was Tom Harrison with 38 points and his score included an eagle on the fourth hole.

Harrison also won nearest the pin on the 11th while John Beatty won it on the fifth.

Captain John Merry took second on countback with 36 points from Russell Longson.
