IT was no surprise that the strong form of Maldon and District Cycling Club rider Adrian Tovey saw him finish as the fastest home rider at the Evening Ten Time Trial held on the E21/10 course.

Tovey recorded a time of 23 minutes 13 seconds, while Alex Ratter was the second fastest Maldon rider with a time of 24m 8s.

Fastest rider on the night was Harry Paine of VCUK PH-MAS CT with a cracking time of 22m 27s.

Fastest junior was Sam Allen of Essex Roads CC with a time of 23m 44s with the fastest Maldon junior again being Harry Wood with a time of 25m 24s and fastest Maldon lady was Rebecca Hammond in 28m 42s.

Maldon riders Chris and Jo York got round in a time of 25m 34s on the mixed tandem.

Meanwhile, Maldon riders Mark Alsop and Joshua Doe raced in the fourth round of the Full Gas Lee Valley Summer Series at the Redbridge Cycling Centre.

Riding in the fourth category race, Alsop finished 30th out of 39 riders, closely followed by Doe, who finished 32nd.

Three Maldon riders competed in the Ford Cycing Club Thursday evening Open Race at the Dunton circuit.

From a field of 49 riders, James Farren continued his fine early season form to finish in 12th place, with Anthony Marsh next home in 27th and Kevin Darragh was 44th.

Maldon riders James Farren, Mark Alsop and Steve Bass rode the Eastern Counties Cycling Association Open 25 mile TT held on the E2/25 course.

The event was notable for past Maldon club member Alex Dowsett as he smashed the previous course record with a time of 44m 29s with an average speed of 33mph which ended up being three minutes faster than the next rider home.

Bass finished 20th with a time of 53m 37s and an average speed of 27.98mph, Farren was 58th, dipping under the hour mark in 57m 29s and an average speed of 26.09mph, with Alsop also going strongly and finishing 93rd in 1hr 4m in an average speed of 23.39mph.

Meanwhile, Hamish Hore has started the fast summer club runs leaving Maldon’s All Saints church at 9am on Sunday mornings.

The runs have an average speed of 17 to 18mph.

Some burn ups take place but the peloton always regroups and generally includes a refreshment stop for cake and coffee at around the halfway mark. Distance can vary but riders should expect around 60 miles with all welcome.

Also on a Sunday morning, Lynda George runs a more leisurely club ride with an average of 12mph and distances of around 55 to 60 miles.

Meet at Maldon All Saints church for 10am with a prompt 10.15am departure.
