BURNHAM'S Danny Buchan had a disappointing weekend at the British Superbike Championship meeting held at his home track Brands Hatch.

Riding a Ducati Panigale for the Lloyds British Moto Rapido team, he was third fastest in practice and went into qualifying with high hopes of a good performance.

However, Buchan could only qualify in 12th place to be placed on the fourth row of the grid.

He made an uneventful start, but on lap four, the Burnham man became the race's first victim with a big highside at Clearways that cut short his aspirations of a decent finish.

With rider and machine both badly bruised and battered, there began a race to rebuild the Ducati and get the young Essex rider back into some sort of physical condition to enable them to contest race two later that afternoon.

About three hours later, man and machine lined up on the grid on the fifth row in 14th place, but Buchan dropped down the order to 20th place by lap six.

He did make up some places mid-race and got as high as 13th, but crossed the finishing line in 15th position.

He said: “Well it was one point scored in race two, but I didn't think I’d be able to even race.

"My body was smashed and so was bike, but the team did an amazing job.”
