ALI Carter has knocked defending champion Stuart Bingham out of this year's World Snooker Championship.
The Colchester-born potter, who grew up in Tiptree, defeated his Essex rival 10-9 in a thrilling first-round encounter at The Crucible, in Sheffield.
Carter saw an 8-5 lead disappear in the evening session but won the last two frames to end the champion's reign, following Bingham's shock victory in 2015.
