BURNHAM Ramblers have a very important week coming up.

They take on bottom side Newham on Saturday and follow that up by playing FC Romania in the Essex Senior League Challenge Cup semi-final, next Wednesday.

Ramblers were without a game at the weekend after falling out of the Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup the previous Thursday.

Ramblers assistant boss Dave Patient is anticipating a good game against FC Romania at Theobalds Lane next Wednesday.

He said: “I am looking forward to the game. It will be a challenge but it is really exciting.

“We have been down on numbers but we are getting players coming back now so that should give us a boost.”

Burnham secured their first win in six league outings when they won 3-1 at Greenhouse Sports on Wednesday night.

And Wednesday was also pivotal for the Ramblers as manager Keith Wilson faced a FA panel looking to turn over his sine die ban from all forms of football following an incident involving the referee at the end of their Essex Senior League match against Barking on February 13.

The case against Wilson was proven but critically he was only banned for six games, from the time of the incident, fined £30 and warned him about about his conduct.

On Saturday, Ramblers entertain Newham.

Patient said: “The game against Newham is a massive game for us and unfortunately I won’t be there and Ricky Evans, who has been assisting me, will have to take the match.

“But, hopefully, Keith will be back in the dug out, where he belongs, after his hearing.”

Burnham fell to a 3-2 defeat against visiting Hullbridge Sports in last Thursday’s Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup match at Leslie Field.

Patient said: “It was a very good game of football.

“Both us and Hullbridge put out a mixed team and it was enjoyable match.

“But it was the same old story, we couldn’t finish.

“We had the majority of the possession but couldn’t find the end product.

“We’ve signed a couple of local lads from Burnham so that has pleased people at the club.

“Also we’ve got two new strikers that look, if they progress as I hope, can be really good for us.

“We have just been lacking that little bit of quality but hopefully that will change.”
