MALDON and Tiptree boss Steve Ball is set for a February where the games are coming thick and fast.

They began their month, which will see them play twice a week, with a 1-1 Ryman League draw against visiting AFC Hornchurch on Tuesday night after the January schedule was hampered by the weather.

But he was ‘gutted’ that his dominant team could only claim a point against Hornchurch.

Ball said: “It was frustrating when the games were called off.

“But now we have a really tough month ahead playing two a week the whole way.

“However, I am looking forward to it.

“The more we play the better.

“Hopefully we can implement some of the things that I have been trying to bring in to our play.

“But if we can put a run together then who knows where it can take us.”

The Jammers fought back to earn a share of the spoils against visiting AFC Hornchurch.

After the break, Maldon had a chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty but Joe Francis’ effort spot-kick on 51 minutes was saved by keeper Callum Chafer.

But it was the visitors that took the lead when Alex Bentley scored on 74 minutes.

Maldon hit the bar on 80 minutes but five minutes later they equalised when Nnamdi Nwachuku fired a shot into the bottom corner of the goal from 20 yards.

Ball said: “It was the best performance we have had since I have been at the club against a team challenging at the top of the division.

“We had some great chances in the first half and we missed a deserved penalty.

“We were on top in the second half and they hit with a sucker punch goal and I thought here we go.

“Then we hit the bar and I thought it wasn’t going to be our night but Nnamdi scored a great goal to get us a point.”
