HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Jody Brown is not getting carried away by his side’s recent winning run.

They picked up a great 4-2 win at high-flying Cray Wanderers on Saturday and then another valuable 1-0 win over Wroxham, the team directly below them in the table, on Tuesday night.

And Swifts face another tough game on Saturday when they entertain fourth-placed Harlow Town.

Brown said: “It was a really good win against Wroxham, considering we were down to the bare bones.

“There was a sickness bug in the squad on the day and I lost four of my senior players, including Lee Townrow and Jamie Guy.

“So we had a really young team out.

“So for them to go out there and grind out a 1-0 win was great.”

Looking back to Saturday’s win against Wanderers, Brown added: “I am not getting excited about the Cray result.

“I had a feeling that it has been coming for a long time.

“I know I have been saying it for a while but we have not been getting the results that our performances have deserved.

“We’ve had lapses that have cost us, we also had lapses on Saturday but we managed to score four goals.

“The result came as no surprise to me and I am pleased for the boys more than anything that their hard work has paid off. “ On Tuesday night, Swifts took an early lead when Tyrone Scarlett made it 1-0 on six minutes.

Wroxham were reduced to ten men on 82 minutes when Jackson Ramm was sent off for a picking up a second yellow card.

And Swifts held on to secure the three points.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s game against Harlow, Brown believes his side is capable of claiming the win.

He said: “We are not afraid of Harlow but we are not going there over confident. But if we get it right then we can cause an upset.

“They have got some of the best attacking players in the division.

“Players like Alex Reid who is always banging in the goals.

“If we can stop their attacking line then we can go and get chances at the other end.

“We know it is going to be a very tough test for us though.”

Brown has bolstered his Swifts side with the signing of striker Jordan Palmer, who came off the bench on Tuesday night for his debut, from Stanway Rovers.

Brown said: “I know Jordan well.

“I have known him since he was 16 and was at Halstead with me.

“He has always been a great option for us.

“Our ethos at the club is to bring in young, local players, I think he is 23 and he will be good for the team.

“He will add to the squad depth and versatility.”

And Brown was also full of praise for Jack Barham who hit a hat-trick in Saturday’s win against Cray Wanderers.

He said: “Jack is a talented teenage player and I was pleased for him to get the hat-trick.

“When we got to the club he was playing at right-back but we felt he had more to offer in an advanced role.

“He’s tireless and works so hard and he has scored six goals in his last six games.”
