The big event this week at Burnham on Crouch Golf Club was The Dave Chittendon memorial Charity Football Cup.

Eighty-four men and ladies took to the course playing for seven football teams.

Following a day of heavy rain the course was in good condition with only one temporary green.

The format was four ball better ball with the four best scores from the men and the ladies score making the total.

There were some outrageous scores from some of the men’s pairs with three scoring 46 points and six with 44 but then they were off the yellow tees.

But this is a team event and it was very tight at the top and relied on countback.

Results: 1 Tottenham 208 pts, 2 Manchester Utd 208 pts, 3 Southend 207 pts, 4 Burnley 202 pts, 5 Arsenal 199 pts, 6 Chelsea 199 pts, 7 West Ham 195 pts.

Margaret Chittendon, David’s wife, looked on as the trophy was presented to the Tottenham team and £450 was raised for Fairleigh Hospice. This was linked to the memory of Sam McNeice.

The men’s winter leagues are drawing to a close, league A has one week to go and League B two weeks.

League A1 has Matt and Rob Hawksworth looking fairly comfortable on 56 points but Tom Howard and David Main had a good week and scored 12 points to give them 44 and Micky Leonard and Paul Lindus had the ten points and are just ahead on 45.

It’s much the same in league A2 with James Marchant and Tony Wilkin looking comfortable on 54 but Brian Roche and FentonYeulett have pulled themselves up to second with 46 points.

Right behind on 45 are Simon Vidgeon and George Grimes.

Micky Parish and Richie Corfield need another good week and some luck to get into second place.

In League B1 the father and son Davies pairing had another good win and are eight points in the lead.

The other father and son pair of the Morris’s are sitting in second having had a good second place last week and are on 28 points but close behind are Matt McGlone and Walter Thompson on 26.

In League B2 scoring was all over the place in week six.

There are two pairs on top with 34 points, Nick Hockings and Steve Smith and in form Dean Bewers and Dave Watson.

Not far behind are Wilf White and Terry Slater on 30 and so a lot could change in this league in the last two weeks. Last Thursday lunchtime past captains of Burnham on Crouch Golf Club, Elaine Mason and Keith Lewis, presented the charity cheque for the proceeds raised during their year as captains to Michelle, a representative of Parkinsons UK.

They would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported them so generously throughout their year – a grand total of £6,379 and change.
