Maldon and Tiptree battled to a great win at Bury Town.

Steve Ball’s Jammers secured a 2-1 Ryman League division north win at Ram Meadow.

Two goals from Sam Newson saw Maldon take all three points.

Newson gave the Jammers an early lead with a superb volley from 25 yards on seven minutes.

But two minutes later Bury were back in the game when Ollie Hughes scored with a free header at the back post.

Just before half-time, the visitors went back in front when a superb run and cross from Darren McQueen saw Newson head home on 43 minutes.

After the break, Maldon had a chance to increase their lead from the penalty spot.

However, Bury keeper Neil O’Sullivan made a great save to deny Newson a hat-trick.

But Maldon were not left to rue the missed opportunity as they were able to hang on to their lead and take the win.

It was honours even in the derby match between Heybridge Swifts and Witham Town.

The game finished in a 2-2 draw as Swifts fought back to salvage a point at Scraley Road.

Jack Barham opened the scoring for the home side on 30 minutes.

After the break, Witham came back into the game and equalised through John Watson on 56 minutes.

The visitors then took the lead on 62 minutes through Jordan Pavett.

But Swifts fought back to earn a share of the spoils when Matt Pooley made it 2-2 on 77 minutes.

Brightlingsea took all three points as visitors Cheshunt left North Road disappointed as the home side fought back for a 3-2 win.

It was Cheshunt who opened the scoring on nine minutes as Jason Hallett bundled his way through the Brightlingsea defence and fired the ball towards Regent keeper Sam Cowler.

The ball then took a slight deflection off Brightlingsea’s Jake Gould and into the net.

The home side went close on 23 minutes when, from a corner, Phil Kelly just fired wide of the right post.

Cheshunt doubled their advantage on 31 minutes.

Stuart Zanone was set free down the right and crossed for Hallett who fired home.

But Regent reduced the deficit on 40 minutes when Matt Cripps hooked the ball into the goal from the edge of the box.

After the break, Brightlingsea levelled the scores when, following a scramble in the Cheshunt box, Kelly poked the ball home on 63 minutes.

Brightlingsea got their opportunity to take the lead for the first time in the match from the penalty spot.

Cheshunt’s Louis Bristow challenged Shamido Pedulu who went down in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot.

Jake Turner stood up and sent Percy May in the visitors’ goal the wrong way for a 3-2 win.

Brightlingsea move up to sixth place in the table and are two points off a play-off position
