BURNHAM ON CROUCH Cadet Day dawned to blustery rainy and freezing conditions.

This did not put off their cadets – one who had travelled all the way from Worcester for the day.

In fact, by tee off time, the rain had disappeared and some sun even made an appearance.

Cadet co-ordinator Les Palmer had gathered ladies and veterans, club captain and vice-captain to join in the celebration and five teams set off on a Texas scramble.

There was some excellent scoring despite the challenging conditions and the cadets managed to mesmerise some of their older team-mates with their impressive skills.

Rachel Clarke, the only lady cadet, led her team of John Merry, Douglas Turner and Mel Lewis to victory giving an exemplary performance on putting by sinking two long birdie putts herself.

The convivial afternoon continued with a prize-giving and Palmer entertained the ensemble with tales of some exceptional performances by our cadets over the year, praising their excellent conduct and spirit.

He also gave special thanks to past captain Keith Lewis who supported at the away games, to Helen Ford for always being available to help set up competitions and compute the cards and to Liz Tolhurst for her picture taking.

The majority of prizes were presented by past captain Keith Lewis and past lady captain Elaine Mason.

David Elphinstone presented the James Elphinstone Trophy and Rusty Oates presented the Ken Morgan Trophy.
