THE last fortnight has seen a big influx of cracking cod inshore which is really early for us but very welcome.

A lot of these fish are 4lb plus with plenty around 5lb and a few better ones mixed in, best baits are squid and lug.

There are plenty of thornbacks around with over 20 some days with the cod as well so a real mix of fish is available most days.

There are plenty of whiting with some better ones showing, a few pout and odd gurnard with a huge tub gurnard caught on The Sophie Lea this week at 5lb.

The Estuaries are fishing well now with plenty of whiting and some cracking cod to 12lb reported.

The piers are also fishing well for cod, whiting, thornbacks and odd school bass with the big spring tides always the best with squid, crab and worm baits fishing best.

Offshore has improved with some good cod showing along with thornbacks, whiting, pout and odd bass still around.

Prospects are superb with the best run of cod for a long time.
