MALDON and Tiptree boss David Wright is preparing for a tough FA Trophy fixture.

The Jammers host Ramsgate at Park Drive on Saturday in a preliminary round encounter.

Maldon go into the game on the back of a three-match unbeaten run. They secured two excellent away wins at AFC Sudbury and AFC Hornchurch, 2-0 and 3-1 respectively, before being held to a 2-2 home draw against Thurrock last weekend.

Wright said: “We have had a good week. We’ve played Sudbury, Hornchurch and Thurrock and come away with seven points.

“And they were difficult games against against good teams. I think that shows that our form is really good.

“Which, hopefully, we will take into Saturday’s match against Ramsgate.

“We know it will be a tough game but we have done our homework. We know their strengths and weaknesses and where we think we can hurt them.”

Despite being pleased with his side’s recent form, Wright was disappointed that they gave away a 2-0 half-time lead against Thurrock.

Two early goals from Darren McQueen and Matt Lock put the Jammers in the driving seat. But Thurrock came back strongly after the break to pull back a goal before Hamish Galbraith was sent off with ten minutes to go, for a second yellow, and the visitors grabbed a share of the spoils with an injury-time strike.

Wright said: “It was disappointing to be held to a draw. We had three of four really good chances to add another goal which we didn’t take.

“If we had have done, it maybe would have been a different story.

“But when you are 2-0 up at home at half-time then you do expect to get over the line. But fair play to Thurrock, they put us under a lot of pressure in the second half.

“I think we lost our discipline. And I just don’t mean just giving away free-kicks and Hamish getting sent off. We got away from what we are good at.

“We stopped playing our style of football.”
