A SQUAD from the Veras Academy attended the British International Karate Championships in Glasgow.

This tournament, at the Emirates Arena, was attended by athletes from 14 countries including South America, Africa and Europe.

Veras Academy travelled to Scotland with a reduced team of just 11 members as some of the competition team were injured.

The day started with Luca Veras and Jack Gentili winning gold in the pairs kata nine years and under.

Then Luca won silver and Ismael Cinar won bronze in the eight-years-old individual kata.

Seyhan Cinar achieved silver in the Individual kata 10-11 years old category.

Gentile and John-Joe Jones shared bronze on the podium in the seven years individual fight.

England Squad member Ben Pomeroy captured bronze in the 14-15 years old individual category and his sister Jasmine Pomeroy, elite athlete and also an England Squad member, won bronze in the under-21 fight event.

The squad of 11 returned home with seven medals and a 16th place position out of 58 clubs/associations, making Veras Academy the top Karate association in London.

Many of the squad train at Maldon’s Blackwater Leisure Centre.
