Danny Buchan put in a good display in round ten of the MCE British Superbike Championship held at Assen Circuit in Holland.

Buchan, from Burnham on Crouch, riding a Kawasaki ZX-10R for the Be Wiser Team, had a consistent weekend securing a tenth and 12th place.

It was only the second race meeting at the Assen Circuit for Buchan and it was a huge learning curve for him and the team.

He had limited time to learn the very fast track and the changeable conditions did not help.

He exceeded the team’s expectations during qualifying and progressed to the final session, starting the first race on Sunday in sixth place on row two of the grid only 0.005sec behind last year’s champion Shane Byrne.

Race one’s start did not go well as Buchan got caught up with a couple of riders into the first turn which dropped him down through the pack to 13th.

He held this position until lap five when he managed to gain two places into 11th.

By lap seven he had settled down to a steady race pace and moved into ninth which he maintained until lap 12 when he was passed by Peter Hickman and finished in a creditable tenth.

The track conditions for race two were very treacherous and as they lined up on the grid the rain started to fall with a vengeance.

Race Control delayed the start to allow track conditions to improve and as they lined up for the second time it started raining once again and it was declared a wet race. Buchan started from row four in 12th place for race two and he got away to a safe start but again lost places and was in 15th after lap one.

He lost another two places by lap two but gradually began to move up the order and was in 12th by lap five.

Buchan improved yet again and passed several riders into ninth place which he held until lap 12 when three of the most experienced riders in the series passed him and he took the chequered flag to end a very difficult race in 12th.

Buchan is now 12th in the Championship on 95 points and with some good results in the next two meetings at Silverstone and his home track Brands Hatch he has a good chance to finish in the top ten.

Buchan said: “It was a tough weekend for me going to Assen as my track knowledge is very limited having only come here once before a few years ago.

“I was really happy with the way things were going throughout the weekend and my team helped me find a good set-up early on in the weekend which certainly was a huge help making me feel comfortable in my riding.

“I enjoyed the weekend and although I would have liked to have finished a little higher up in the results I am pleased with two solid finishes.”
