FIVE Lakes Golf Club held their club championship at the weekend, played on both the Links and Lakes courses to provide a test to find the best golfer in the club.

Saturday’s round on the Links course saw some excellent scoring from five handicapper Billy Coe shooting a gross 72 to take the clubhouse lead after the first day.

However, the Sunday round on the championship Lakes course provided a sterner test for the contenders, Paul Bowers’ (6) gross 75 and David Rogers’ (5) gross 79 ensured the leaders had to play their best.

Billy Coe (5) returned a gross 89 to put along his 72 from Saturday to claim third place overall.

Second place went to the consistent Malcolm Pook (6) with scores of 79 and 80.

However, the 2015 club champion is Jack Garnett (5) with scores of gross 78 and 79 to claim the Championship Trophy.

Run along side the gross championship is the handicap championship based on nett scores. Rob Kilgour (11) scored a nett 73 and 74 to be just outside the main prizes.

Third place went to Alan Garnett (10) with scores of 76 and 71.

Eric Howlett (13) took top spot with nett 77 and 67.

Birdie twos were won on both days, on the Links course Mick Gill on the tentth and Malcom Pook on the 13th, Lakes course saw Tom Arrowsmith and Eric Howlett take birdie balls on the fourth.
