THE Burnham Hillside Ladies’ Day managed to beat the weather.

After a slight delay though the ladies braved it and started to play and thankfully the rained held off long enough.

In all there were 28 ladies playing.

Before the game started a Spider was run in aid of the club’s President’s Charity (Breast Cancer) for which £30 was collected.

There was also a raffle with prizes generously donated by some of the attending bowlers for which an amount of £129 was made for the club’s funds.

The winner of the Spider was Karen Hull who received a bottle.

The Ladies’ Day winner was also Hull, who was presented with a £10 voucher, and the loser was Jean Etherington, who was given a secret booby prize.

In the Coronation Shield Pairs, Joy and Alec Campbell have reached the finals play-off day and in the ECWBA Champion of Champion Singles Joy Campbell has reached the semi-finals.

Burnham’s Chelmsford & District BA Wednesday night league teams played their last games.

The A team managed to remain in division one, however, the B and C teams will be relegated next year to the thid and fifth leagues respectively.

Burnham played two friendlies this week.

On Saturday, they visited Tillingham and played over six mixed triples and were narrowly beaten 101-97.

On Sunday, hey had a home game against West Mersea over four mixed triples.

Unfortunately for West Mersea they could not get to grips with the Burnham green and lost heavily 122-47.
