THE Burnham on Crouch ladies played for The Challenge Trophy.

This was week one of the two-week event and a small prize was on offer.

Thirty-six ladies took part at either the weekend or on the Thursday.

It was a close competition with 11 players separated by three points and Amy Barnes scoring an eagle on the 16th in the Challenge Trophy.

Results: 1 Liz Tolhurst 37 pts ocb, 2 Elaine Ephinstone 37 pts, 3 Jean Bailey 37pts, 4 Heather Hornbrook 37 pts.

The Veterans Gordon Courchee Trophy medal competition took place on Wednesday.

Twenty-eight members took part on a warm sunny day and some good scores were returned.

Results: 1 Alan Glass nett 67, 2 Tom Harrison nett 69 ocb, 3 Bob Willett nett 69.

On Tuesday, the veterans’ section held a charity day and a total of £2,540 was raised for a specialist wheelchair for a local girl.

This was a stableford competition, best three from four to score on each hole.

Results: 1 Nick Hockings, Bob Wallace, Steve Hitchens, Wilf White 126 pts, 2 John Merry, Eddie Pittman, Terry Davies, Bill Bewick 122 pts.

Seventy members and guests contested a windy but dry Men’s Guest Day on Saturday.

The morning was an 18-hole four ball better ball competition and in the afternoon a nine-hole scramble.

Results: 4BBB pairs stableford: 1 Nic Hull and Chris Symmons (guest) 40 pts, 2 Dom Adams and Steve Maycock (guest) 39 pts, 3 Wilf White and Phil Handley (guest) 38 pts.

On Monday the Cadets played the Dennis Tyrell trophy on a windy day with a soft course following the rain.

Results: 1 Mackenzie Maberley 34 pts, 2 Sam Gorringe 30 pts.
