FORRESTER Park had a close and exciting match in the quarter-finals of the Essex County Leslie Wood team competition.

They took on Canons Brook, on a neutral course at Ilford.

At lunch, after the morning foursomes, the score was 3-1 in favour of Forrester Park, with one game halved.

The afternoon singles saw a strong fight back by Canons Brook but Forrester Park just made it over the finishing line by the narrowest of margins, with a final score of 8-7.

The ladies’ bronze team won five of their six league matches and have qualified for the quarter-finals knockout stage.

They will be playing Burnham-on-Crouch at Stoke-by-Nayland early in July.

The senior team’s run in the Essex Seniors’ Team Competition was halted when they were beaten at the Warren in the quarter- finals.

The veterans’ team had an enjoyable friendly game against Clacton, winning 6-2.

The ladies enjoyed cool but fine weather for Susan Wilson’s Lady Captain’s Day and there were some close results for the prizes.

Three players scored 36 points in the morning stableford and a countback was required to decide that the winner was Maggie Lintner from Irene Hoffman and Hilda Hazell.

The afternoon nine-hole team game also needed a count back to decide that Dawn Marriott, Doreen Mortlock and Mary Mays had beaten Claire Turner, Margaret Triston and Mel Kuhl, both teams with 37 points.

The men’s Sunday stableford was won by Nigel Woolley with 40 points from Dave Ratchford and Ron Stovell who scored 38 and 37 points respectively.
