Darrel Church suffered his first loss and has instantly arranged a rematch for September Tiptree boxer Darrel ‘The Baptist’ Church experienced his first loss in the professional ranks at the hands of Angelo ‘Concrete’ Crowe at the Civic Hall, in Grays, on a Carl Greaves Promotions show.

The 25-year-old light-heavyweight was the home fighter on the night and was undoubtedly disappointed by the decision.

He said: “It just wasn’t my night, I got my first loss in my entire boxing career and it was by just one point.

“I’m absolutely gutted but I’m not going to be bitter about it, I know I didn’t do enough to win but I didn’t deserve to lose.”

Church immediately booked the rematch for September and said: “The best fighters in the world lose, it’s how you come back from it.

“I got the rematch on straight away and I need to prove a point.”

The light-heavyweight believes he took too long to adapt to his opponent’s aggressive and awkward style in the opening rounds.

He said: “I should have thrown more but it’s one of those things.

“He came out in the first round just flying at me so it took me a couple of rounds to get into.

“By the time I got into it and worked him out, the fight was almost over.

“In the third and fourth rounds, I came on strong and I wobbled him in the last round; with another two rounds, I could have stopped him.”
