THE warmer weather just recently has really triggered the migration of the summer species and it looks like it could be a great summer.

There are good numbers of bass starting to show with the best on our boat at 7lb caught by Barry McCormack last Friday.

The same day we had over 30 more bass in a hectic two-hour spell, all falling to a straight lugworm bait fished hard on the bottom.

There are big numbers of thornbacks showing in all areas now.

These fish will take all fish and crab baits using a big hook and strong trace.

There are a few codling and whiting still around with several codling of 3lb caught last weekend.

Most of these fish will move off soon, although the pier anglers will still catch them for a while yet.

Offshore there are a few smoothounds showing up now.

These early smaller male fish will take worm and squid baits although their favourite is crab.

There are plenty of doggies but not as many as we have had in some years, the thornbacks are thick on the ground everywhere and also a few dabs are starting to show.

The best baits for the flatfish are lug and ragworm.

Prospects are excellent, with summer approaching and the water warming up you never know what you might catch.
