The weather and fishing has been superb recently with some big hauls of cod and thornbacks.

The cod are hanging on for a surprisingly long time this spring.

We fully expected them to be gone by now but numbers are still good with catches of over 100 a day on some days with a good showing of 4lb fish.

There are a few better ones showing up with the best at 7lb caught by Chris Collins from Angling Direct this week.

This fish took a squid and lug cocktail and was part of a cracking mixed day of cod and thornbacks, all fish were returned alive.

There are good numbers of thornbacks starting to show with plenty of double figure female fish.

These big female thornbacks are full of egg sacks and should be returned alive to breed, best baits are squid and lug with a chance of a cod or bass.

There have been reports of a few bass starting to show and we will be targeting them soon once the cod move offshore.

The piers and shore marks have been fishing well on the big tides for codling, whiting, thornbacks and dogfish with odd school bass starting to show, best baits are squid, crab and worm.

Prospects are excellent, the cod are still in big numbers and with thornbacks and a few bass showing, you’ve never had it so good!!
