A late goal for hosts Canvey Island left Witham Town deep in relegation peril towards the foot of the Ryman League premier division table.

It was another point they took from a 1-1 draw, but being pegged back in the latter stages of the game meant they slipped into the bottom three and are now five points from safety with three left to play.

Harry Cook put Witham ahead in the 72nd minute after capitalising on a poor back pass, but the Gulls got an equaliser six minutes from the end thanks to a strike from Marlon Agyakawa.

Meanwhile, BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT kept their dreams on track for a place in the division one north play-offs as they beat AFC Sudbury 3-0 to win their fourth consecutive league outing.

A strike from Jake Turner on 24 minutes set them on the right path and second-half goals from Phil Kelly and Jordan Heath completed another productive day from James Webster’s team.

Also in division one north, the local derby between MALDON & TIPTREE and HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS at Park Drive brought an opening 45 minutes to forget for hosts Maldon.

The Jammers were trailing 3-0 at the break after a brace for Swifts’ Billy Hunt and one from Shamido Pedulu and the hosts were also down to ten men after seeing Sos Yao sent off on 14 minutes.

Things didn’t get much better for Maldon after the break either as even when they did get a sight of the Swifts goal, Heybridge keeper Danny Sambridge made a save from a penalty as it ended 3-0 to Heybridge.
