It was a good weekend for John Mayle at Five Lakes as he secured the Hunsdon Spring Putter and qualification in the PGA Lombard medal.

This 18-hole stroke play competition named after the original captain of Manifold Golf Club (the original golf club name of Five Lakes), Steve Hunsdon, was played on the Links golf course.

Two players returned nett 74s, Dave Morris (16) and Danny Owen (12).

Roger Springall (12) came close with a nett 73 to be just outside the main prizes. Third place went to Ian Cottee (9) with a nett 72 with Neil Shinwell (10) third on a nett 70 winning the lowest gross score prize also.

But Five Lakes’ immediate past captain Mayle took the top spot with a nett 69.

Birdie twos were won by Barry Boniface on the eighth, Mick Gill on the tenth and Bernie Sheldrick on the difficult 16th.

In the PGA Lombard medal qualifier, Mayle with the lowest nett score represents Five Lakes with club professional Gary Carter in the regional qualifier.
