IN gale force northerly winds, the seventh and final round of this season’s Five Lakes Seniors’ Winter League was played on the Links Course.

Six teams competed in the three-ball Texas Scramble stableford competition, played off 1/7 combined handicaps, with the individual accumulated points carried over to this final round.

Players needed their five best scores to count out of the maximum seven games played.

With the fairways thoroughly saturated after recent heavy rains, preferred lies were permitted through the green.

Even with this provision, all players found the unseasonably cold, strong, winds a real challenge to accumulate meaningful points.

It was very difficult for players to score sufficient points to profitably improve on their previous best five results.

The testing conditions required players to fully pitch on to the retentive greens to prevent an under-hit ball plugging in the apron.
