BURNHAM and District Table Tennis League division one leaders Fambridge A were defeated by Cold Norton A.

Fambridge’s Keith Adams, Marko Jovic and Mark Stones came up against a Cold Norton A team featuring Duncan Taylor and Minda Sinkus and went down 3-7.

Taylor and Sinkus swept all before them to really make things interesting at the top of the table.

Maldon B are currently second and, although that position is partly because they have played more games than the teams around them, they are having an excellent season and picked up another hard-fought victory against West Maldon A.

Steve Whitely and Jon Stokes each won twice for Maldon and Glenn Laing and Dick Wyman did the same for West Maldon.

The form book was turned upside down in the division two match between Woodham A and C teams as Lee McHugh, who was previously unbeaten for the season, was beaten first by George Ashley and then by Cameron Gray, who went on to record his first treble of the season as the teams fought out a draw.

Leaders Cold Norton D look to have the division title sewn up as they cruised to another emphatic win, this time 9-1 over Woodham D with Dan Anderson and Chris Hancox both unbeaten.

The only success for Woodham came when Adrian Armstrong beat Dave Hancox. Stow Maries C got a solid 6-4 win over Cold Norton C as Dave Goody, Brian Ellis and Craig Foster each won twice but none of them could get the better of Peter Lucraft.

A treble from the ever-reliable Tom Elder made sure that Maldon C came out 6-4 winners over West Maldon C.

The only one of the top sides featuring this week in division three were Maldon G who eased past Mayland B 7-3 with David Lamb scoring an impressive win over Jon Stevens.

Elsewhere, the youngsters of Woodham F, Luca Bailey Tom Butcher and Scott McQuarrie, recorded a fine whitewash of St Lawrence C, which featured Tom Butcher’s first treble.
