Heybridge Swifts boss Cliff Akurang doesn’t expect his side to take their foot off the pedal when they face strugglers Cray Wanderers.

Swifts shocked Ryman League division one north leaders Harlow Town on Saturday with a 3-2 win, inflicting their first home defeat of the season.

They then backed that up with a 1-1 draw with rivals Brightlingsea Regent, who had been on a good run of form, at Scraley Road on Tuesday night.

The results leave Swifts in 16th position in the division with games in hand on the teams around them.

This weekend they travel to second from bottom Cray Wanderers but Akurang believes his side will not see any lessening in their commitment.

He said: “Cray will be a tough test but I don’t expect our boys to take their foot off the pedal.

“Everyone can beat everyone in this league.

“And that showed back when we played Redbridge, who were in a similar position.

“That was a setback for us.

“Sometimes it is what you are fighting for.

“And you could see it in their play, they threw everything at us. I expect Cray to do the same.

“We have to be professional and approach the game with the right attitude.”
