HEYBRIDGE Swifts boss Cliff Akurang wants his players to maintain their discipline.

Swifts lost out 4-2 in their Ryman Division One North match at Dereham Town at the weekend and were reduced to ten men in the process.

The visitors were level at 2-2 when defender Jordan Willmore was sent-off following a second yellow card on 70 minutes.

Dereham then went on to take the upper hand and snatch the win with two more goals.

And out of the home side’s four goals two came from the penalty spot.

Akurang wants his players to show more maturity and has been addressing the issue before the side’s home match with Aveley at the weekend.

Akurang said: “We had a guy sent off and after that it was an uphill struggle. I said in the dressing room that if you are on a yellow card then don’t make any rash challenges.

“We gave away far too many free-kicks on Saturday. They are not learning from previous occasions.

“They have to maintain their discipline, they are old enough to know what they should be doing.

“The discipline record wasn’t great when I arrived at the club and it is something that I am addressing and will continue to do so.

“As far as the penalties go as a striker I know that if someone is willing to go down then it takes it out of your hands and it leaves the decision to the referee.

“Sometimes you have to have faith in your keeper to make the save.”
