BURNHAM boss Bertie Brayley was left “bamboozled” by his side’s first half capitulation against Soham Town Rangers.

Ramblers turned around 6-0 down at half-time in their Ryman League division one north fixture, leaving Brayley shocked and embarrassed.

The visitors managed to pull two goals back in an improved second-half performance through Stephen Ikumelo and Stuart Judd but it wasn’t enough to turn things around.

Brayley said: “I was bamboozled.

“We started off for the first ten minutes looking like we were going to compete and then by 35 minutes we are 6-0 down. It was crazy, I couldn’t believe it.

“It’s the first time as a manager that I was at a loss as what to do.

“I wanted to change seven or eight of them.

“The first ten minutes we looked solid.

“Then we didn’t clear the ball well enough and it got fizzed back in and went in the goal off Marc Gorbell’s toe.

“And that’s how it went and then they scored quick-fire goals.

“It left me in shock.

“I brought the experienced Stuart Judd on at half-time and he seemed to shore things up.

“I was impressed with Lee Pleasance – he didn’t stop running all afternoon, even when things weren’t going for him.

“And Matt Belcher in goal, they all kept trying they can take credit from the game as well as the players I brought on.

“Otherwise, all round it wasn’t good enough.”

However, Burnham’s second-half performance did bring some cheer to Brayley but not enough to get over his side’s first-half mauling.

Brayley said: “In the second half Soham didn’t have two shots on goal.

“I ask myself did they take their foot off the pedal but they didn’t.

“I think some of the players were embarrassed by their first-half performance.

“I know I was.

“I told them that if we had played like that in the first half then maybe we could have nicked something from the game.”

This Saturday Ramblers are away at Aveley in the league.
