IT was double delight for Burnham Ramblers’ boss Bertie Brayley as he celebrated victory against Thamesmead in the league and a cup win.

Rambler’s 3-2 Ryman One North win against visiting Thamesmead on Saturday broke a seven-match league losing streak and was the first win since their 2-1 success against Maldon and Tiptree back in August.

Bradley Nobbs scored a late winner to make sure of the three points after they had been pegged back to 2-2 following goals from Liam Burgess and David Collins.

Burnham followed Saturday’s success with a 3-2 win against Bowers and Pitsea in the Essex Senior Cup third round on Tuesday night.

Ramblers now face a tough trip to Needham Market on Saturday in the League.

Brayley said: “I had to throw together a back four on Saturday as my normal line-up was suspended, as was I.

“But they played extremely well, the two centre-backs backed each other up superbly.

“Grant Khory-Davinson has rejoined the club and I threw him in when he was match fit but he played well for the full 90 minutes.

“I had to play a left-back at right-back, at one stage I had three left-backs on the pitch playing out of position.

“But all the way through the team they played well.

“To go 1-0 up early on was great and then they got a sloppy goal back.

“When we went 2-1 ahead I thought we can’t give this up, then it was 2-2 and I thought ‘here we go again’.

“To be fair the second goal was a great goal and the lad won’t score one like that again – a back heel into the top corner.

“Their player who was sent off should have been sent off beforehand but to be fair I think we were dominating possession.

“Apart from the two goals they didn’t really bother us.

“We always looked like we were going to score and it was just a question of when and then Bradley popped up with the winner at the end which I think we deserved.

“It was a great to get the three points and it was a massive relief in the changing rooms afterwards.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, Brayley said: “Needham Market will be a very tough prospect.

“I rested Liam Burgess on Tuesday night because he has played a lot of football and we need him fresh for that game.

“But everyone can beat anyone in this league.

“We haven’t been having the luck, especially when you are down at the bottom, of winning games that we could have.”
