Heybridge Swifts boss Keith Wilson was embarrassed by his side’s Robert Dyas League Cup exit.

Swifts let a two-goal lead slip to crash out of the competition as they lost 4-2 to Brentwood Town at Scraley Road on Tuesday.

It followed on from Swifts’ first home win of the season, in Ryman League division one north, which was Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Cray Wanderers.

Wilson said: “It was an embarrassing defeat.

“The first 15 minutes were excellent against an inexperienced Brentwood.

“But after that, it was a complete no show.

“I rotated the side after the weekend, but wish I’d stayed with Saturday’s side.

“People were given the opportunity to play and show what they could do.

“I thought we had strength in depth but that performance shows we haven’t. That display just wasn’t good enough.”

Charlie Gregory and Alex Andrews put Swifts 2-0 up with the game only seven minutes old.

But Brentwood’s Yeshaya Lomotey pulled a goal back on 42 minutes before second-half goals from Shad Ngandu, Christian Mbulu and Robbie Rees.

Looking back to Saturday’s win against Cray, Wilson was relieved to gain his first three points at home.

He said said: “It was nice to get that monkey off my back.

“I was pleased to get the win and give something for the home fans to cheers about.”
